Getaway together as a family this summer.

Something extraordinary happens when people slip away from the regular rhythm and routine of life to visit camp. While difficult to describe, it’s impossible to forget the difference even the shortest stay at camp can have as they discover the story of God’s amazing love and incredible hope.

Getting away does not produce transformational ministry. It does however cultivate moments. Moments created to encourage faith. Moments full of redemptive potential. And in these moments people encounter God’s presence and purpose for their lives and relationships.

At Camp Caroline, we are uniquely able to serve people by creating environments designed to encourage life-changing experiences. Through the ministry of hospitality, we strive to serve people with such excellence that their time at camp is free of any distractions or hassles, allowing them to focus on connecting with family and with God.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How are family getaways different from family camps or retreats?

These getaways will be different than our regular family camps or retreats. Families will set their own daily schedules. There will not be childcare or programming for just children/youth. Everything will be based on families remaining in their household group and participating together. We expect many families will spend their days around camp, while others will go on day adventures (exploring, hiking, swimming, rafting, etc....).

Families will be able to book either a 4-night getaway (Wednesday to Sunday) or a 2-night getaway (Friday to Sunday). During their getaway they will stay in either Aspen or Hillside Lodge. Families will also have the option of purchasing meals, and we will offer limited activities. Should public health measures allow, we may plan family firesides for worship and/or additional activities for families. The health and safety of families and staff will be of the highest priority to us. We are committed to following public health guidelines and working with Alberta Health to protect families and staff.

What type of onsite activities should we expect at camp?

Your getaway is truly a "choose your own adventure"! Camp Caroline has a beautiful wooded property and a family could spend a good deal of time enjoying and exploring the natural spaces of camp; walking trails, splashing in the creek, shooting hoops, playing gaga ball, or tossing a ball or frisbee around. After some practice tosses, one might even be ready to tackle our frisbee golf course!

Additional onsite activities including the pool, quad zipline, giant swing, axe throwing, archery tag, and archery will be available at different times throughout your getaway.

On Friday and Saturday evenings we host family firesides, and on Sunday morning we have a family worship time.

How is Camp Caroline dealing with public health guidelines related to COVID-19?

At Camp Caroline, your family's health and safety is our top priority.  As a part of our effort to keep every camper family safe, we have several healthcare protocols in place designed to help our staff team provide the best possible experience for anyone who participates in summer camp.

    Contagious Illness Protocol

In an effort to keep our camper families and staff happy and healthy, Camp Caroline has introduced a contagious illness protocol. The communal living environment of camp brings an increased risk for spread of contagious illnesses (e.g. influenza, chicken pox, pink eye, COVID-19, etc.). Staff and camper families who have experienced symptoms of contagious illness in the seven days prior to the start of camp are asked to remain at home until no longer contagious. Individuals who reveal symptoms of contagious illness upon arrival at camp or who develop these symptoms while at camp will be isolated from other camper families and staff, and asked to leave for home. Camp fees or a pro-rated portion thereof will be refunded in the case of cancellation or early departure due to illness.

    COVID-19

The province has provided us with a number of guidelines and best practices to follow. These best practices will be very similar to those you and your children already experience at work and school, e.g., physical distancing, cohorting, regular cleaning and disinfecting, using PPE when needed, and strong hygiene expectations.

TRAINING TO PROTECT CAMPER FAMILIES AND COUNSELORS
Our staff will participate in training designed to protect camper families and counselors during their stay. This training will include proper hand hygiene, proper techniques for cleaning and sanitizing, instructions regarding new gathering limits and physical distancing, and proper use of PPE.

    CLEANING PROTOCOLS AT CAMP

We have developed cleaning protocols to thoroughly clean and sanitize cabins and common areas regularly. As part of our protocols, special care is taken to clean and sanitize high touch surfaces and any shared equipment.

    PROTOCOLS

    • Families will be asked to stay together as a household while enjoying camp.
    • Physical distancing practices will be in place for camper families, counselors, and anyone else at camp.
    • Everyone who comes to camp will be properly screened.
    • We will maintain appropriate records for contact tracing.
    • We will also have a rapid response plan in place in the event a participant, counselor, or staff member on site develops symptoms while at camp.
    • In the weeks ahead we will continue to work with Alberta Health to make sure we have the most recent health care plans in place for this summer.

Do we have to wear a mask while at camp?

All attendees must agree to abide by all public health regulations while at Camp Caroline. Therefore, as long as regulations require masking while indoors, we will ask camper families to wear masks while in the public spaces of our facility. Masks are not required when in one's own room with just your family. We ask that when enjoying one another's company outdoors, that families abide by outdoor gathering limits and follow distancing and/or masking guidelines.

What will our dining experience be like?

Camp Caroline is committed to following current restaurant/food service guidelines as outlined by the province.
    • All food will be served by our food service staff.
    • Camper families will be encouraged to eat outdoors whenever weather permits.
    • We are setting up picnic tables under our large carnival tent as a sheltered outdoor dining space.
    • Additionally, we will have picnic tables available on the deck and throughout our property.
    • Indoor dining will only be offered when regulations allow.
        • We have capped our available booking capacity to accommodate 6 feet between tables/households in the dining room, should indoor meal service be permitted.

    When are meals?

    Hot Breakfast: 8:00-9:00am
    Lunch: 12:00-1:00pm
    Dinner: 5:00-6:00pm

Many dietary concerns and food allergies can be accommodated by our food service team if given advanced notice. Please complete the Food Allergy and Dietary Concerns Form when booking.

Can we purchase additional meals if we only book the Bed & Breakfast package?

A limited number of meal tickets will be available for purchase each day. If a member of your family has food allergies/dietary concerns, please check with staff to ensure your dietary needs can be accommodated for your desired meal time before purchasing your meal tickets. Special Diet accommodation is not guaranteed when purchasing meal tickets.

Can we bring our own food?

A favorite part of Camp Caroline for families is the FOOD!  For this reason we encourage guests to choose the All-In meal package. If you choose the Bed & Breakfast package only, you will need to procure your own lunches and dinners.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    • There are no refrigeration or cooking facilities available for guests at the camp. Guests should anticipate using ice chests/coolers and bringing food that does not require cooking or heating.
    • Please DO NOT bring cooking appliances to camp. Guests may not use mini fridges, hot plates, insta-pots, crockpots, toasters, kettles, microwaves, etc. in their rooms or lodges.
    • Camp Caroline is a NUT AWARE facility. Please do not bring any products containing peanuts or tree nuts to camp.
    Restaurants:
There are a number of restaurants in Caroline, Sundre, and David Thompson Country/Rocky Mountain House offering take-out or patio dining (as restrictions allow).

Can friends and family come out to visit while we are at camp?

To ensure the safety of our guests, we ask that you do not invite any visitors on site during your stay.  Please invite friends and family to book a Getaway as well if they would like to be at camp!

Camp Caroline will be collecting vehicle information as part of your booking. Families are asked to refrain from driving around the site during their stay.

Can we stay in our RV or tent?

No. Families may book accommodations in our Aspen Ridge or Hillside Lodges.

    Can we bring our pet?

No. Please leave your pet at home, with friends, or at a kennel.

Will we be able to have our own campfire at night?

Households may be able to book an evening campfire time in accordance with Alberta Health Service guidelines for gatherings, as well as in consideration of current fire hazard conditions or restrictions. Campfire locations are limited (10). Please pack lawn chairs as not all locations will have seating.

What are the rules for recreational substances at camp?

Camp Caroline is an alcohol and cannabis free site.  We do however have a designated outdoor area for guests who smoke cigarettes.

Are there designated quiet hours at camp?

Camp wide quite hours are 11pm to 7am. Additionally, we ask that guests be quiet in and near the sleeping accommodations (Aspen Ridge Lodge and Hillside Lodge) from 9pm till 7am.
