2011 Summer Camp Dates

Camp Caroline is committed to providing an uplifting camp experience for every camper, staff member, and volunteer. We believe that the better we care for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our staff members, the better able they are to care for the needs of the campers, thereby increasing the quality of the experience for campers.

In the last few years, we've been evaluating the effect of the summer schedule on the health of our summer staff. The summer camp environment and current schedule can be very intense both physically and emotionally for staff members who are giving of themselves to care for the increasing emotional and behavioural needs of campers. Some negative consequences of such an intense schedule have included staff sickness, loss of focus, personal emotional struggles, and staff retention losses.

In light of the above values and observations, we have decided to alter the length of our 2011 Grades 4/5/6 A Camp and Grades 7/8/9 A Camp. Instead of ending with camper pick-up on Saturday morning, these two camps will be ending with camper pick-up on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Camp Caroline. We are choosing this option for the following reasons:

1. We believe that the extra night and morning of "down time" for staff will increase their physical, emotional, and spiritual well being and better prepare them for upcoming weeks of ministry.
2. Introducing this change only to the "A" camps in July allows parents the choice of which length of camp they would rather have their children attend.
3. We are offering an almost-equal camp experience for a lower cost than the regular camp length.

We anticipate that this change will impact a handful of parents who may not be able to get off work in time for camper pick-up at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Camp Caroline. Therefore, we are making tentative plans to provide bussing home on Friday only for our A camps. For just an extra cost of $20, parents could then pick-up their children from a central location in Calgary, Red Deer, or Edmonton.
